Photographer
Nature as a concept did not really enter my life until I turned 26, and a friend convinced me to leave my city life behind for two weeks a take a road trip west across the U.S.; an experience which would double as my first ventures into hiking and camping life. Nowadays I’m often found lugging my camera gear in a 65 liter backpack in order to extend the distances I can travel in the wilderness with my camera.
Doubling as a product photographer while residing at home base in Chicago, I have found my landscape work flexes very different creative muscles, ones requiring surrender of the photographic control so familiar in a studio setting.
There are a million variables in landscape photography, and while preparation and planning is incredibly valuable, especially in regard to the technical aspects of photography, the moment that camera comes out it becomes and art of adaptation. One photo requires a split second reaction time (this one), another demands sacrificing the dryness of my boots (this one), while some finish with my mind in rhythm with the tide (this one).
These travels back and forth across the U.S. have left me feeling small. The Mojave’s wind-sculpted rock leaves me speechless every time I come back. The Oregon Coast presented me with a different level of calm in my soul I had not known. And a wild island off the coast of Georgia was akin to Dorthy’s first step into Oz. So many place has left a deep imprint on me—too many to share here, but you’ll find many of them lying in my galleries.
